The longest continuously serving unit of the U.S. Army Toujours Pret (always ready) The first traces of this unit go back to 1812, to the American-British War (1812-15), but it was officially established by the President as the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons of the U.S. Army only in 1836 (since 1861 2nd Cavalry Regiment) The unit fought in the wars with the Indians, Mexicans (1846-48). As part of the Army of the Potomac, it took an active part in the American Civil War (1861-65). During the War with Spain (1898), it landed in Cuba The unit participated in the successes of American forces in World War I in France, especially during the Marne River Offensive In July 1944, the regiment landed in France (already as an armored regiment) and was assigned to Patton's 3rd Army, where it proved to be an advance reconnaissance unit. This is how the regiment penetrated into Czechoslovakia in 1945 During the Cold War the regiment is stationed in Germany. In 1990 it is transferred from there to Kuwait, from where it penetrates deep into Iraq. After returning to the US, the unit is reorganized as a light cavalry unit and armed with armored Humvees. It also participates in the conflicts in Haiti (1995), Bosnia (1997), Iraq (2007-8) In 2006, the unit is further rearmed, the regiment is assigned Stryker vehicles and is therefore referred to as the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment.
